Pizzeria Bianco: Reunited & It Tastes So Good

(Posting from Phoenix) -- Bryan and I are enjoying a quick weekend getaway to Phoenix where we have a few certainties on our agenda: Go to the Giants' Spring Training game, revisit a few of my old haunts and hit up Pizzeria Bianco. We attended to the latter matter straight off the plane, grabbing a late launch seat at the famed downtown pizzeria. Twenty minutes, two beers and two glasses of wine later, Bryan and I were digging into two of the best pizzas we've had in our recent history:

- BiancoVerde: Mozzarella, Parmesan, ricotta, arugula (we added prosciutto)

- Mozzarella, tomato sauce, salami (we added fennel sausage)

The taste = unreal. The pizzas were just as good as I remembered from my days living in the Arizona desert. Bianco knows what's he doing and executes it simply and unapologetically: his menu has 5-6 types of pizzas, a few optional add-ons and that's it. Salad sch-malad, who needs greens when you can devour a still-bubbling pie straight from the brick oven? Savor and enjoy.

Where We're Registered

*Hint: Click the C&B and Bloomingdales logos to link directly to our registries. The Wine House requires orders via phone.

It wouldn't be a Napa wedding without a wine registry! We're really excited to start our own collection of wines, and even more excited to have our closest family and friends drink them with us. If you want to bestow us with some good wine, here's what you do:

Choose a bottle (or bottles) from the list below. Call or email Erin Landsberg at The Wine House at 310.479.3731 ext. 213 or erinl@winehouse.com. Tell her you're calling about Christie Clough/Bryan Bishop's wedding registry. Give her the names of the bottle(s) you want to buy and your payment information. She'll take care of the rest. Best of all: you don't have to pay shipping if you don't want to. The wine is kept at the store until we (or you) pick it up.

How We Met

As told from Bryan's perspective...

We were at a rehearsal dinner for our friends Adam and Claire in Scottsdale, Arizona. My friend Elizabeth introduced me to Christie, and we hit it off right away. She asked what I did for a living, and I told her I worked for The Adam Carolla Show. "No kidding!" she said. "I know a guy who works for that show!"

Since there are only about 8 people who work for the show, I asked Christie who she knew. "I'm not sure," she said. I went through a list of about 7 people and none of the names rung a bell. Running out of options, she turned to her friend Lyndsey and asked, "Who do I know from the Adam Carolla Show?"

"Um, the guy you're talking to right now!" Lyndsey replied. Then it dawned on us: Not only had we met once before, but we spent an entire weekend together... and we both had forgotten about it!

A year and a half before the rehearsal dinner, I headed out to the USC/Arizona State football game in Tempe, Arizona, with my girlfriend at the time. My friend from college, Lyndsey, who had ironically married my college roommate, asked if her friend Christie could meet up with me at the football game in Arizona. Christie was living in Scottsdale and had a single ticket to the football game. Not only did we meet up at the football game, but we went to the official team rally and had dinner with my girlfriend's family. I also told her that I was about to start a job for The Adam Carolla Show, hence her recollection. That was the last we ever saw of each other...

...or so we thought.

So we re-met at the rehearsal dinner, shared a good laugh at our collective forgetfulness, and both realized during our conversation that there were a few sparks flying. We had a wonderful "date" the next night at Adam and Claire's wedding (who, it was later revealed, sat us next to each other on purpose, confident we would hit it off). The night of the wedding, I promised Christie I would take her on a proper date once we both returned to Los Angeles the next week. One date turned into two, and now... well, we have a very special "date" that we'd like to share with you all.

How We Got Engaged

What was supposed to be Bryan's 30th birthday trip to Napa ended up becoming an engagement celebration for us both. After a LONG day of wine tasting and eating our way through the wine country, Christie had a pretty bad stomachache. She told Bryan she really needed to lie down and rest for a bit. She changed into her pajamas, glasses...the whole nine yards. In her mind, the night was over and and it was time to recoup from five winery visits and three indulgent meals! But Bryan had other plans and knew this might be the perfect moment to pull them off.

While Christie was in bed reading the USA Today sports page, Bryan lit a candle he had brought from home and put on some romantic music. He then "discovered" a unique champagne cork from within the collection of corks they had been gathering from wineries all day. He alerted Christie by saying, "Hmmm...there's some weird thing written on this cork." When Christie asked what it said, he tossed the cork to her in bed. As soon as she caught it and took one look she realized what going on and that the mystery writing was none other than Bryan's own - "Will you marry me?" scrawled in Sharpie around the base of the cork.

The look on Christie's face said it all: curiosity, shock and JOY! She, self-admittedly, "freaked out a little bit" when Bryan got on his knee next to the bed and asked her to marry him. After a few tears and many hugs and kisses, Christie said the most important words of the night: "Of course, YES!"

A hint for those attending our wedding: our first dance will be to the "romantic" song that was playing when Bryan proposed. We hope you can make it and cheer us on! :)

About Our Wedding

We're getting married in Napa, CA on June 27, 2009!

Why Napa?
The Napa Valley is one of our favorite places and uniquely brings together many attractive elements for our wedding. While it's widely known for picturesque rolling hills of vineyards and gorgeous weather, we love Napa because it's home to some of our favorite wines and food. An added bonus: it's close to where Bryan grew up, but far enough away to provide a true "destination" feeling. When you arrive in the Napa Valley, you feel like you're a thousand miles from wherever you call home. Many of our friends and family have never spent any time there, so it affords us an opportunity to share a place we love. We hope you'll find it to be as magical a place as we do.

THE BRIDESMAIDS

Matron of Honor: Lyndsey DeMuro

Lyndsey and I met at the tender young age of 14 as freshmen in high school. That was in 1993, and we can hardly believe it's been almost 16 years since! We've witnessed, talked about and celebrated the vast majority of each other's most important moments. Not only are we extremely close, but our parents are long-time friends and Lyndsey's husband, Rich, was Bryan's roommate at USC. So, it's safe to say our paths have been interwoven from the get-go.

Bridesmaid: Catie Casazza

I've known Catie for just over a year and a half. Catie is a "new" friend to me, but an old friend to Bryan. Right up until the moment I met Catie, Bryan said over and over again, "You're going to love Catie!" and "You guys are going to be great friends!" Well, it turns out Bryan was right on all counts. Catie and her husband, Kyle, are two of our closest friends and we're excited for a lifetime of good times with them.

Bridesmaid: Claire Weglarz

Proving we all weave quite the tangled web, I met Claire several years ago through Lyndsey and her husband, Rich. Claire was dating (and is now married to) Adam - Bryan and Rich's fraternity brother from USC. Claire and I have been good friends since we met, and oddly enough, it was at Adam and Claire's wedding that Bryan and I "re-met." Without their rehearsal dinner and "purposeful" seating chart at their wedding, Bryan and I may have never crossed paths again.

Bridesmaid: Jaime Melton

Jaime and I have been great friends, coworkers and advertising partners in crime since 2006. Jaime and I became fast friends during MANY all-night new business pitch sessions. Convinced we're two versions of the same person, Jaime and I think the same, talk the same, have the same values and can make 6 hours of chatting feel like 5 minutes. It's kind of sick, actually.

Bridesmaid: Jamie Smith

I met Jamie during the first of many sleepovers at Lyndsey's house, as Jamie is Lyndsey's younger sister. Since Jamie was 9 years old, I've considered her the little sister I never had and I've had the pleasure of watching her grow into an amazing young woman. Today, she's not only my unofficial little sister, she's my close friend and colleague.

Bridesmaid: Jen Halvas

Jen is another "new" friend to me, but an old friend to Bryan. Bryan and I have been hanging out with Jen and her boyfriend, Matt, ever since we started dating. She brings great energy and a bright smile to any get-together. Not to mention, Jen's party-planning skills are second-to-none, as evidenced by her and her roommate Lisa's amazing wine tasting parties. I've loved getting to know her over the past year and a half and look forward to many more fun memories!
